Lesson Plans

These are a few lesson plans created by me. Check out the student work tab to see student made examples of the projects!

Ceramic Artist Research Project

I am a firm believer that the art room is more than just making art. This project allowed for students to find artists they were drawn to, use art specific language to describe work and processes, as well as deepen their overall understanding of ceramics.

Sgraffito Tiles

This technique combines my expertise in printmaking with my clay practice, allowing me to go in depth with my students. This project called for students to explore the technique of scratching and carving into clay.

Two Independent Projects

Most students enjoy choice. The idea of having them complete two independent projects is that they choose what they want to make, and the possibilities are truly endless.

Set of Four Coasters

A lot of students love to make functional ceramic work in art class. Coasters are a way for them to understand that function and design can absolutely go hand in hand.

Four Matching Cups

This lesson was to challenge students to make 4 cups that are shaped as identical as possible. This heavily relied on math and attention to detail.

Scale Model

The idea of this lesson was for students to take scale into consideration. For example, a laptop wouldn't be the same size as a mattress, so this would also be the case in a scale model. They could choose whatever room they want, as long as it was to scale.

Artist Inspired Work

This was a challenge for students to make the transition from a non-ceramic artist/artwork into a ceramic piece. This could be inspired by a glassblower, printmaker, painter, anything as long as it was not a ceramic piece.

1 Point Perspective Interior/Exterior

This project was created for Art 1. Students were guided through making a 1 point perspective interior and exterior drawing. They were then given the choice between one of the two to create a final drawing.

Narrative Collage

This project was created for Art 1. This gave students an unlimited amount of freedom. Students were required to choose some sort of story; this could be a personal story, a fairy tale, a poem, song lyrics, etc. With this, they would make collages based off of it using multiple resources.

Color Wheel Packet

Students were worked alongside their peers and me through an eight page packet. This packet was filled with information that would further their understanding of color, where it comes from, and how to use it successfully.
